(R)adio (E)mergency (A)ssociated (C)ommunications (T)eams "Public Service Through Voluntary 2-Way Radio Communications" Internet: http://www.REACTINTL.org March 26, 2005 -- IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- "CONVENTION TESTING WILL REQUIRE ADVANCE PREPARATION" (REACT NEWS DESK) Corona-West, CA -- Volunteer Examiners (VEs) from local Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) organizations will be on hand at the 2005 REACT International Convention to monitor amateur radio testing for members wanting to upgrade an existing license or take the entry-level examination. "We urge any REACT member wanting to take the examination to study ahead of time before arriving at the convention," said John Seitz, CREST Unit 44 and Chair of the Amateur Radio Testing Committee. "Unfortunately we won't have time to have any pre-test study sessions, and since testing will take place during lunchtime, we want to finish on time and still get right back to the activities of the afternoon." Seitz suggests the study guide published by Gordon West, WB6NOA, radio guru and amateur legend, who is rumored to be attending the Convention. "But if they prepare using any of the study guides available, that should suffice," Seitz said. "The important thing is to study ahead of time, take advantage of the various tests that are on the Internet, and come prepared to sit for the selected test with minimal delays." According to Seitz: 1. Obtain the appropriate study guides from your local amateur or ham radio dealer. 2. Study the training materials that are available from Internet web sites that are up to date and cover the latest ham radio question pools: > http://www.W4VEC.org > http://www.w4vec.com > http://hamcall.net 3. If you are currently unlicensed, be sure to bring: > 2 forms of ID's (one with photo) > Your Social Security Number (SSN) 4. If you have OR had an amateur license: > Your Current license > A Copy of your License(s) > Any original CSCE that you may have > Your Social Security Number -- OR -- > Your FCC License > CORES or ( FRN ) According to Seitz, not all testing levels may be available. "Anyone with aspirations of taking a test during the convention should contact me ahead of time, preferably as early as possible. I would also like to know if a VE will be attending the convention and would like to assist."
